Katie McHenry, Executive Assistant to Chairman Lanny Griffith, joined BGR Group in 2007 after three years as a Schedule C political appointee in the George W. Bush Administration. In her current role, she supports the Chairman and other firm members with event planning, copy editing, scheduling and other administrative tasks.
From 2003 – 2006, Katie served as a Confidential Assistant at the U.S. Department of Commerce: from 2003 – 2005 in Secretary Donald Evans’s scheduling office, and from 2005 – 2006 in Secretary Carlos Gutierrez’s front office. In these positions, she assisted with managing the secretary’s day-to-day operations, drafting and translating documents between English and Spanish, scheduling and administration, and coordinating between the Office of the Secretary and other executive branch agencies.
Currently, Katie volunteers for the SPCA of Northern Virginia and serves on the advisory board of White Coat Waste Project, a watchdog group working to end wasteful taxpayer-funded animal experiments. Her past volunteer work includes fundraising and event planning for Humane Dominion, the only PAC (political action committee) in Virginia to elect animal-friendly candidates; the Texas Humane Legislation Network; and D.C.’s Humane Rescue Alliance, Washington’s largest animal welfare organization.
A Houston native, Katie graduated cum laude in 2003 from Texas A&M University, where she wrote for the student newspaper, The Battalion. She received her B.A. in journalism and minored in Spanish.
