Basma Abbas is the Government Affairs Coordinator for the Commerce and Infrastructure Practice at BGR. Basma conducts critical research and analysis of the legislative and policy landscape, develops materials and documents that facilitate the team’s work, and serves as a hub of operational support for senior lobbyists with their advocacy efforts on a diverse range of issues. 


Before joining BGR, Basma was the Immigration Caseworker for Congressman Don Beyer (D-VA). There she represented the constituents’ interests on behalf of the Congressman to federal bureaucracies, such as United States Embassies and Consulates, USCIS, ICE, and Department of State bureaus. During her tenure, she was an active member of the Congressional Black Associates and the Congressional Middle Eastern & North African Staff Association.


Prior to government service, Basma self-started an ESL business to teach the English language to K-12 students in Egypt’s privatizing economy. She is fluent in Egyptian Arabic. Basma received her B.A. in International Public Policy from Virginia Tech.
