BGR Group Announces Formation and Leadership of New Healthcare Practice Working Groups

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 21, 2019) - The BGR Group Healthcare Practice has formed two Working Groups to enhance the already outstanding support it provides to clients. The FDA & Public Health and Access & Reimbursement Working Groups are comprised of knowledgeable experts who understand the complex interaction of science, public policy, politics, and the legislative and administrative processes relating to healthcare policy. These experts help clients develop and execute engagement strategies designed to achieve strategic reputational, regulatory, and/or policy objectives. The bipartisan BGR team stands out because of its substantive technical knowledge and decades of experience shaping health policy.

Remy Brim, Ph.D. and John Stone will co-lead the FDA & Public Health Working Group, which advises and represents a wide range of medical, consumer product, and food companies as well as trade associations with legislative and regulatory policy matters pertaining to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other government entities with scientific and public health missions. The team is comprised of individuals who have held senior positions in both the public and private sectors and have been engaged in the development, negotiation, passage and implementation of major public health legislation and regulatory policies, such as numerous medical product user fee reauthorizations and the 21st Century Cures Act.
Before joining BGR, Brim served as Senior FDA Policy Advisor to Senate HELP Committee Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Senior Health Policy Advisor to Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) She received her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Michigan Medical School. Prior to joining BGR, Stone working for the House Energy and Commerce Committee as Counsel on the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee and Senior Counsel on the Health Subcommittee.
Matt Hoffmann and Robb Walton will lead the Access & Reimbursement Working Group, which works with healthcare organizations like provider groups and medical product manufacturers, as well as other leading companies and trade associations throughout our nation’s healthcare delivery system. The Access & Reimbursement team works on all policy matters pertaining to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) as well as the state and federal commercial insurance marketplace. Over the past two decades. BGR has helped clients navigate events like the enactment of the Medicare Part D benefit to the passage of the Affordable Care Act to the annual CMS payment schedules and regulatory payment reform proposals. Given this vast experience, the BGR team effectively guides clients dealing with unpredictable and dynamic changes within the industry.
Before joining BGR Matt served as Policy Director for the Senate Finance Committee, a health care policy advisor to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and as Staff Director for the Ways & Means Subcommittee on Health. Prior to joining the BGR team, Walton worked as Senior Health Policy Advisory and Counsel for Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.), a key member of the Senate Finance and HELP Committees.
