State Department’s Maya Seiden to Join BGR Group—Will bolster firm’s strong international practice

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 3, 2014 – Maya Seiden, former chief of staff to the Deputy Secretary of State, joined BGR Group as a vice president starting today, according to Ed Rogers, BGR’s chairman. BGR Group is the premier bipartisan government relations and strategic communications firm with offices in Washington and London.

Seiden is a veteran of both the Clinton and Obama administrations. For the last five years, she served in various senior positions at the U.S. Department of State. As Chief of Staff in the Office of the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, she oversaw budget and strategic planning for the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Also while at the State Department, Seiden led successful efforts to elevate domestic business and commercial promotion efforts and to employ the use of economic tools to support foreign policy goals. During the Clinton administration, she was Special Assistant to the Secretary of Energy and Special Assistant to the White House Cabinet Secretary.

Outside government, Seiden held strategy, operations and communications positions in the non-profit and corporate sectors and received her master’s degree in business administration from New York University. She was Vice President for Corporate Strategy and Business Development at BlackRock; held various positions at New York University, where she led strategic and operational planning for the Operations and General Counsel divisions; and helped companies manage crises at a public relations firm in New York.

“Maya will be engaged in all aspects of the firm’s activities – government relations, public relations and commercial transactions, especially on the international front,” Rogers said. “Maya’s experience in government, politics and business will make her an important addition to BGR starting on day one.”

“I am excited to bring my business and government experience together to serve BGR’s clients as they navigate an increasingly complex international commercial landscape,” Seiden said. “The BGR team is second to none, and I look forward to helping them continue to make an impact on behalf of their clients.”

“Maya brings great expertise and excellent outreach to BGR. Her Democratic roots and her outstanding service in Democratic administrations will offer fresh perspective for BGR. I look forward to working with her,” said former Governor Haley Barbour, BGR’s Founding Partner.
