Robb Walton, J.D., Senior Health Policy Counsel to Senator Bill Cassidy, will join BGR Government Affairs as a Vice President in the health care practice on January 3, 2017. Robb will focus on helping clients navigate Congressional efforts to replace the Affordable Care Act, including Medicaid reform, as well as assist with a wide range of federal agency issues impacting the life sciences industry and health care providers.
For the past two years, Robb served as the Senior Health Policy Advisor and Counsel for Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) where he managed the health policy team and developed the Senator’s health care agenda. He focused on issues related to the Senator’s role on the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services. Robb often spoke on behalf of the Senator at conferences, panels, and briefings.
Commenting on his firm’s latest hire, BGR’s Founding Partner Haley Barbour said, “BGR’s successful track record in helping clients achieve results in Washington is a result of our lobbyists’ policy expertise. Since BGR’s founding, health care has been a driving force in the firm’s growth and I am confident Robb’s experience will add great value to our advocacy on behalf of health care clients.”
Previously, Robb served as Senior Health Policy Advisor to then Congressman Cassidy providing counsel in relation to his membership on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Health. He helped to develop numerous policy proposals in relation to FDA, Medicare Parts B, C and D, Medicaid, and other public health programs, including a comprehensive Medicaid financing reform, and a private insurance alternative to the Affordable Care Act. Robb also coordinated the Congressman’s participation in the GOP Doctor’s caucus including supporting the values of market-based health systems.
Prior to his service with Senator Cassidy, Robb worked for the ranking member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, Senator Michael Enzi (R-WY). He handled issue portfolios of Medicare, Medicaid, HIT, private health insurance, health care reform and worked with HELP Committee staff on the FDA User Fee Reauthorization bill.
Commenting on joining BGR, Robb offered, “I chose to join BGR because they help clients offer policy solutions to policy makers. It is relatively easy to tell a Member of Congress why you oppose a policy. What differentiates firms, and leads to the success of their clients, is helping Congress work with the private sector to solve problems. In my years of experience on Capitol Hill, there are few firms as skilled at achieving results than BGR. I am thrilled to join their health care team at a time when Congress has an enormous opportunity to drive policy changes.”
Robb’s education includes American University, Washington College of Law (2016), Georgetown University (2010) and the University of Maryland, (2009). A member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society and the National Scholars Honor Society, Robb has been a member of the Maryland bar since 2016.
