James Liu joined BGR in 2017. During the course of his professional career, he has advised on venture investments both in the United States and China, represented multinational clients in their foreign direct investments in China, advised on mergers and acquisition deals, joint venture set-ups and restructurings and all aspects of investments. In recent years, James’ practice has extended to representing clients in the Peoples Republic of China (both state-owned and private clients) on outbound investments in Europe and in the United States.
James has been involved in all phases of investment and M&A transactions in China, from the initial planning and structuring through the approval and implementation. A substantial portion of James’ practice focuses on advising clients on investment strategy and opportunities. He has extensive experience acting as a business advisor to corporate directors and individual investors. James is a known as an experienced dealmaker and negotiator. He was selected by China Law and Business as one of the top 100 lawyers in China in November 2016.
James is based in Beijing, and previously lived and worked for 14 years in the United States. He brings to the table an international mindset and an ease in bridging cultural gaps effectively. James was admitted to the Bar of Maryland. He had a Master’s degree in French literature and is also a MBA candidate.
